Passionate Albany bowler TIM SCOTT is writing a fortnightly column for The Extra, keeping our readers up-to-date with the local bowls scene.

Emu Point Red has produced a dominant 30-shot final-round victory over Albany Gold 4 (53) to 0 (23) to clinch the ladies first division pennant for season 2023-24.

With all final-round games played at Mt Barker Golf, Red showed all their class to win the title by two points over Middleton Beach White who finished the season strongly with a 4 (48) to 0 (30) win over Denmark Aqua.

Mt Barker Golf ended a frustrating season with a 3 (48) to 1 (43) win over Emu Point Purple as Albany Green defeated Middleton Beach Green 4 (45) to 0 (36).

These results mean Albany Gold are relegated to second division for next season.

Cranbrook, having already claimed the ladies second division pennant and promotion, finished the season with an exciting draw against Emu Point Blue 2 (36) to 2 (36), while Middleton Beach Red defeated Denmark Orange 3 (38) to 1 (34).

A strong contingent of bowlers from the Lower Great Southern Bowling League have headed to Perth for the annual AFGRI Men’s Country Week Championships, highlighted by the pairing of Emu Point stars and former winners Jon Sharpe and Matt Mitchell.

Men’s pennants resumes this weekend, as Albany Gold hosts reigning pennant holders Emu Point Red in the match of the round in first division.

Middleton Beach Gold will be keen to pick up maximum points against local rivals Green to remain in touch with the top two sides.

Meanwhile, the ladies LGSBL team have overcome hot conditions and some tough competition to win their third consecutive Inter League Round Robin title recently held in Brookton.

Heading into the final round, five sides remained in contention with only 1.5 rink wins separating them.

Lower Great Southern won their final game to clinch the three-peat.

Congratulations to Beryl Cooper, Karen Miller and Leila Mann who were selected in the southern zone team for the Inter Zone Round Robin to be held in Kulin in March.
