De-listed WA pair Bryce Jackson and Teague Wyllie set to make interstate moves

Bryce Jackson and Teague Wyllie are set to make interstate moves after losing their contracts with WA. Jackson was the shock omission from a 26-player list released on Thursday, not being offered a deal despite finishing as his side’s leading wicket-taker in last season’s One-Day Cup with 15 wickets from six games. Having been squeezed out of his home State as they accommodated the return of Jhye Richardson and Lance Morris to their books following the loss of their Cricket Australia contracts, the speedster is in line to sign on with New South Wales. Jackson first earned a rookie deal with WA in 2021, eventually making his debut for the State in 2024 after overcoming a run of back injuries. The Albany product did not ever feature in Sheffield Shield cricket but immediately emerged as his side’s premier 50-over bowler, earning a call-up to feature for Australia A last year. In total, he has taken 34 wickets across 14 List A games. He spent the 2024-25 Big Bash League season with Perth Scorchers as a replacement player for Mitch Marsh without being called upon to play a game. Meanwhile, Wyllie has been linked with a move to Tasmania, with the 21-year-old remaining eligible for a rookie contract. The right-hander became the youngest Sheffield Shield centurion since Ricky Ponting and drew comparisons to Indian great Rahul Dravid when he brought up three figures as an 18-year-old in his third game at the level in 2022. He struggled to kick on from the promising start to his State career, with his first-class average standing at 20.79 after 21 games. Reigning Laurie Sawle medallist Cameron Gannon has returned home to Queensland, while Matt Kelly, Baxter Holt and Keaton Critchell have also lost their State contracts. Promising teenage all-rounder Will Malajczuk and opening batter Tom Murray earned deals, and seamer Kieran Elliot has been recruited from Tasmania to shore up the State’s red-ball fast-bowling stocks.
