Perth Scorchers have found themselves embroiled in another catch controversy against Adelaide Strikers, just days after being on the wrong end of a match-turning decision against Melbourne Renegades. Scorchers openers Finn Allen and Mitch Marsh had made a blistering start at Adelaide Oval, taking 81 runs from the first 28 deliveries of the match by smacking seven boundaries and the same number of sixes. The introduction of leg-spinner Lloyd Pope eventually brought Allen unstuck — but not before television umpire Michael Graham-Smith took several looks at replays from different angles to determine Strikers captain Matt Short had completed a clean catch at point. Allen initially stayed in the middle but eventually began to make his way off before the official decision came through on the scoreboard. The New Zealand international smacked his bat against a bag equipment as he came off the ground. On Wednesday, Perth captain Ashton Turner looked to have completed a clean catch to dismiss Renegades rising star Ollie Peake, only for third umpire Stephen Dionysius to determine he was not in control of his body when he grounded the ball as he tumbled downwards. In a low-scoring affair, Peake went on to smash a match-winning 42 not out from 30 balls, ramping the game’s final delivery from Aaron Hardie over the leg side and into the Optus Stadium stands to hand his side a remarkable victory.
