A strong crowd gathered to witness the running of the 2026 Fitzpatrick Plate on Sunday, the first thoroughbred meeting in the Great Southern for the new year. Hundreds flocked trackside as the running of Albany’s major sprint race, worth $125,000, highlighted a nine-race card at Percy Spencer Racecourse. The races on Fitzpatrick Plate Day were named in honour of former jockeys, including the likes of Jimmy Lemon, Ray Oliver, Jason Oliver, Glen Simpson, Craig Wake and recent Australian Racing Hall of Fame inductee Frank Treen. The TABtouch Fitzpatrick Plate was won by $2.45 favourite Supernatural, who stormed home for champion hoop William Pike to hold out Charino and local hope Wineaclocksumwhere. The victory handed trainer Adam Durrant a third Fitzpatrick Plate success.
