AFL 2026 live scores: Fremantle Dockers hope to lay down early season marker against Geelong Cats

Fremantle got off to a false start last year against Geelong. Can they find some redemption and lay down an early marker to show they are serious contenders this year?
Judd McVee will make his club debut, while the Cats have called on some big reinforcements in Patrick Dangerfield and Jeremy Cameron after their Opening Round flop.

Neale gets one back for Geelong
It’s a huge grab as Shannone Neale comes across the front of the pack to take a nice mark and converts.
Alex Pearce is now on the ground for Freo and was Neale’s opponent.

They have four now!
Dudley takes a strong mark after another turnover from the Cats.
His kick from 40m is fantastic and the small forward has been electic early.

Dockers almost have another
Sean Darcy, crumming of all people, and Isaiah Dudley does so well to keep the ball alive.
Neil Erasmus snaps and goals but Bruhn just gets a finger on it.
Dockers have three
Josh Treacy wins the two-on-one and then kicks over the top to Jye Amiss uncontested in the goal square.
It’s another speedy transition from half back with Geelong unable to stop the run early.
FRE 3.2 (20) GEE 1.1 (7)
Serong gets one
End-to-end stuff from the Dockers and though Jye Amiss drops the mark Caleb Serong hits the loose ball at pace and smacks through his first.
FRE 2.2 (14) GEE 1.1 (7)
Concerns for Alex Pearce
After missing all of last year Tanner Bruhn was Geelong’s best last week and he kicks through a stunner only for Heath Chapman to touch it off the boot.
Meanwhile, Fremantle captain Alex Pearce is down in the rooms and doesn’t look happy about something
Cameron responds
The Coleman medallist gets his first look as the Cats work the ball up the far boundary, and Bailey Smith’s floating kick finds Cameron as he converts from 35m.
Bolton gets Freo’s first
But this is all on Caleb Serong as he brilliantly keeps the ball alive in the pocket as he finds space where there shouldn’t be any.
His centring kick gets to Bolton, who boots through Fremantle’s first goal of 2026 around the corner.
FRE 1.2 (8) GEE 0.0 (0)
Here we go
Cats win the first clearance but Fremantle intecerpt at half-back an almost go end to end before Pat Voss is spoiled.
Andrew Brayshaw tries a soccer off the ground but it’s touched over the line.
Matt Johnson intercept the kick out but Judd McVee’s kick inside 50 misses the target.
Another setback for Luke Ryan
The two-time All-Australian was sensationally not included for this clash and was set to play for Peel in a practice match today.
However he has copped another blow.
