Cirque du Soleil will add seven extra shows to the Perth run of its spectacular production Luzia, due to “overwhelming demand”.

The groundbreaking Canadian troupe announced the additional performances today (Sunday May 26) because tickets were selling so fast for Luzia, which begins under the Big Top at Claremont Showgrounds on July 25 and will now run until September 1.

The show, set in an imaginary Mexico described as being akin to a waking dream, includes the feats of acrobatics that Cirque du Soleil is famous for, including aerial maneuvers, the Cyr wheel, trapeze, hoop diving juggling and contortion. For the first time in a touring production, Luzia also incorporates water into its artistic sequences.

The production, which travels with a team of 120 people, including 47 artists from 26 countries, and 1000 pieces of costume, would head to Brisbane and Sydney after Perth.
