A group of women have been charged with a slew of drug offences after a crack down on illicit drugs in the East Kimberley.

Earlier this week Kununurra Police charged five women with 10 related drug offences as the result of a search warrant.

Kimberley K9 drug detection dog Hank, who had travelled from his station in Broome for the operation, sniffed out a quantity of drugs and cash during the search.

The investigation was part of a proactive operation from Kununurra Detectives to target the sale and supply of illicit drugs in the district.

Kununurra Detectives officer in charge Det. Sgt. Paul Brunini said all forms of illicit drugs created harm within East Kimberley communities.

“We will continue to target those who intend to deal illicit drugs to the community,” he said.

Two women aged 39 and three others aged 26, 30, and 48 will appear in court at a later date, while a 21-year-old woman was issued with a cannabis intervention notice.

Police can issue a Cannabis Intervention Requirement or a Drug Diversion Notice when small quantities of a drug have been detected.
