A warning has been issued after a kayaker’s encounter with a bull shark in the Canning River in Perth’s south on Wednesday.

Surf Life Saving WA reported a sighting of the three metre shark 12 metres off the Rossmoyne Foreshore, near Riverton Drive, about 8.40am.

It is understood the kayaker was in knee-deep water during the shark encounter.

St John WA says it did not attend the scene, with the Department of Primary Industry and Regional Development saying the kayaker did not have any injuries from the encounter.

Residents have been urged to take additional care in the area after the sighting.

Shark activity can be found on the SharkSmart website and app, as well as the SLSWA X account.

More to come.
