Drink-drive charge for woman already banned from driving for life twice after she allegedly blew 0.142

A woman who was already disqualified from driving for life allegedly returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.142 after she was pulled over for speeding on Albany Highway near Williams. Williams police say they stopped the 57-year-old Katanning woman about 5.50pm on August 8 because she was speeding as she travelled south on Albany Highway near Hurley Road in a Holden Commodore. They allege the woman had a blood alcohol level of 0.142. Acting Sgt Darren Redhead said the woman had been subject to two lifetime disqualifications — one that started in 2001, and the other in 2008. Offenders sentenced to a lifetime disqualification can apply to have it removed after 10 years. As a result of the vehicle stop, the driver was charged with excess of 0.08 and driving with a cancelled licence. Acting Sgt Redhead said the woman had “no regard for her own safety, the safety of the four passengers and that of other motorists on the road”. “With a blatant disregard for the road rules, it is extremely disappointing to apprehend a driver that is not only exceeding the speed, she wasn’t the holder of a current driver’s licence and furthermore was heavily intoxicated,” Act. Sgt Redhead said. “It is without doubt a combination of these factors that contribute to serious or fatal crashes on our road network.” The woman is set to face Narrogin Magistrate’s Court on September 21.
