Californication’s performance in Saturday’s $100,000 SkyRacing.TV-Provincial Championship Series Final (1400m) at Belmont will likely determine local trainer Paul Rowe’s plans for the rest of the year.

Californication was on Friday quoted at $4.40 by TABtouch after drawing barrier five among a field that includes the Peter Fernie-trained Abloh ($3.90 favourite).

Rowe this week said a strong run could mean the gelding staying in Perth for bigger races.

Alternatively, he might be set for the Hannans Handicap at Kalgoorlie-Boulder Racing Club on October 2.

Californication resumed from a long spell with a powerful victory in the championship series heat over 1200m at the KBRC on May 12.

Saturday’s field includes Tropical Sun ($26), trained by Fernie’s son Luke, now based at Ascot.
