Break-in left local club gutted
A recent break-in has left the Great Southern Kart Club in Wagin with barely anything left in their shed.
Club secretary Nicky Morrell said they have lost almost $5000 worth of machinery and tools.
“They really cleaned us out — anything that wasn’t bolted down was removed,” she said.
The culprits have managed to take all the diesel stored in the shed, various equipment and machinery used for races, including some lights and a quad bike.
They have also ransacked a grader and loader machine that was lent to the club by a member to prepare the track for a race.
“Glen Ward is an avid member of the club, he lends his machinery to prepare for the upcoming race,” Ms Morrell said.
“The culprits managed to steal two radios, two batteries, and a fire extinguisher out of his loader and grader — and they also yanked some of the wires out of the roof and siphoned all the fuel out of the machine.”
Police are investigating the break-in.
Ms Morrell said most of the items stolen were materials donated by various members of the club over the years.
“We cancelled the race (Plus Fitness Great Southern Slam) because of the weather but now that this happened, we probably wouldn’t be able to do it because we’ve got no fuel and most of the stuff we used for the race is gone,” Ms Morrell said.
After hearing the unfortunate news, a prominent member of the club, Stewart Cumming, has offered to supply and repair some electrical items that were stolen or damaged during the incident.
The Great Southern Club said it appreciated all the help their members had given over the years and looked forward to holding the WA State title race in the coming year.
