Albany Highway crash: Man dies after hitting a tree near Beaufort River, Kojonup

A 27-year-old man has died after the car he was driving left the road and hit a tree off Albany Highway north of Kojonup just before midnight on Saturday. About 11.55pm the man was travelling south when his white Mitsubishi Challenger SUV left the road at Beaufort River, about 35km from Kojonup, near the intersection of Albany Highway and Youngs Road. The man was the sole occupant of the vehicle and died from his injuries at the scene. On Sunday about 8.40am in West River, about 36km west of Ravensthorpe, a 67-year-old motorcyclist died after colliding with a Holden Commodore sedan travelling in the opposite direction. The sedan was travelling east on South Coast Highway when it collided with two Honda motorcycles. Great Southern police traffic officer-in-charge Sergeant Derek Grimes is pleading with motorists to take extra care on the roads. “We urge all drivers in Great Southern to drive with care, show patience and abide by the road rules to prevent these serious and fatal crashes that we are having,” Sgt Grimes said. “We have had six fatal crashes with seven people deceased already this year in the Great Southern. “Contributing factors to serious and fatal crashes, mainly revolve around inattention, fatigue, speed and impaired driving.”
