GSCA 2023-24: Broomehill star all-rounder Lewis Barritt dominates awards after stellar season

Outstanding individual performers of the Great Southern Cricket Association 2023-24 season were celebrated on Saturday at the awards night in Tambellup. After 14 gruelling rounds of cricket and on the cusp of finals, players from across the league gathered at Tambellup Community Pavilion to celebrate the season’s highest achievers. After a spectacular season for Broomehill with both bat and ball, star all-rounder Lewis Barritt clinched Player of the Season honours with 19 votes, five ahead of Kojonup captain Liam Want. Barritt scored 353 runs at an impressive average of 60.78 to finish runner-up in the batting average award while also picking up the bowling aggregate with 21 wickets at 15.52 and he capped a stellar year with selection in the GSCA Team of the Season. “I didn’t expect it going into the night,” Barritt said. “I knew I was going to be somewhere around the mark but I thought Liam (Want) and Flynn Cristinelli both had exceptional years. “The beauty of being an all-rounder is, if you miss with the ball you know you can maybe have an impact with the bat and if you miss with the bat you know that you can impact the game with the ball, so I’m very lucky in that sense.” Want finished runner-up in the batting aggregate with 442 runs at 44.2 and took 14 wickets at 13.43 to also earn selection in the team of the season. Tambellup captain Flynn Cristinelli capped off a dominant season at the crease to win both the batting aggregate and average awards with 547 runs at 60.78 and was named captain of the team of the season. Kojonup fast bowler Josh Mathews finished with the best bowling average after claiming 14 wickets at 8.36 and Broomehill young gun Bryce Hinchcliffe won the association fielding award with 14 votes. Kojonup’s Mitch Blakers was runner-up in the bowling average award with 16 scalps at 10.31 while Tambellup’s Devon Cristinelli was runner-up in the bowling aggregate on 20 wickets. Kendenup pair Clinton Gilbert and Jakob Douglas and Broomehill’s James Barritt were named as batters in the team of the season. Broomehill’s Mac Crichton got the nod as wicketkeeper, Tambellup pair Shane Willmott and Devon Cristinelli and Kojonup duo Blakers and Mathews were named as bowlers while Tambellup’s Connor Hawkins was also named in the 12.
