$6.1 million Early Childhood Hub project under way

The Shire of Katanning has commenced earthworks on the $6.1 million Early Childhood Hub project in Daping Street.

The hub was introduced by the Shire in 2015 to accommodate the town with childcare centres, flexible office space, three domestic-scale kitchens and a space for local meetings and social events.

Julie Hawkins the director of Katanning Community Childcare Centre is excited about the prospect of seeing all early childhood services under one building.

She will relocate her childcare services into the new hub that will be able to hold 67 children under their care — which is double the capacity that Mrs Hawkins’ childcare centre is able to currently provide.

Shire president Liz Guidera said the project would be an excellent opportunity to bring a range of services together under one roof.

Katanning Early Childhood hub is expected to finish sometime in mid-2018, with the tender for construction of the centre expected to open in July.
