Albany trainer Peter Western says he has no immediate plans for consistent gelding Lord Kronos after edging clear for a second win of the Great Southern season at Percy Spencer Racecourse on Friday.

After enjoying a win on the opening day of the Great Southern calendar in November in Mt Barker, Lord Kronos struggled in his last start in Albany in November before a drop in weight and reunion with jockey Jason Whiting led to the change in fortune.

Western said he was pleased after pipping Steve Wolfe duo My Greek Boy by a length and favourite Chasing Chaos for a sixth career win from 22 starts in the Albany Garage Doors Handicap (1500m).

“He’s a bit of a hard horse to ride,” Western said.

“He had his old mate Jason, I think Jason has ridden him for me every ride bar one, he knows him well.“(It’s) very pleasing as it wasn’t a bad field.”

Leading Albany trainer Steve Wolfe went on to record a double after a frustrating run of placings to start the day.

Emerging middle distance runner Wild Fusion made it three wins on the trot with a comfortable win by 2¼ lengths over stablemate Jester Rock in the Moss Conveyancing Handicap (1600m). Earlier the Wolfe-Shaun McGruddy combination had a first-up win with Deangles in the USG Boral Maiden.

Dixie Solly had an upset win with Top Agent ($20) in the XXXX Gold Handicap (1500m) upstaging Steve Wolfe’s Round the Point and Amber Highway while Bunbury trainer Paul Roberts registered his first Albany win of the season with Tribute to Glory in the Tabtouch — Better Your Bet Maiden (1600m).
