Spencer Park Primary School spreads Christmas cheer with choir, clarinet and percussion performances

The sounds of Christmas echoed down Hardie Road on Wednesday as Spencer Park Primary School music students performed carols for the community.
The music students began their performances at Spencer Park IGA, before moving to the Clarence Estate and to Clarence Estate Residential Care where they were able to spread the Christmas cheer.
Choir students brought festive enthusiasm to the stage as they performed Christmas classics including Joy to the Word, The First Noel and Little Drummer Boy as well as their own original, Christmas in Albany.

Alongside the choir performances, a clarinet duet played Jingle Bells and Ode to Joy before the concert finished with a percussion performance of Ode to Joy and Hallelujah.
Spencer Park Primary School music teacher Naomi Swann said the students have worked hard and have been excited to share their music with the community.
“The goal of today is to give back to our community close to our school and show kindness to others through the gift of music,” she said.
Ms Swann said it was heartwarming to see the students interact and engage with members of the community after each performance.
“My favourite thing is seeing the kids when they are talking to everybody after.
“I love seeing how natural some of them are with the elderly people.”

Clarence Estate Residential Care lifestyle co-ordinator Laura Johnston said the performance from the primary school helped lift the Christmas spirits of the clients.
“Some people don’t have families or have limited family, so bringing children in brings everyone’s spirits up,” she said.

Ms Johnston said she loved watching how the students put a smile on the clients faces when they visit.
“I love seeing the clients light up as everyone enters the room and the connections formed between the children and the clients.”
