Whale of a time aboard after dark
An atmospheric after-dark experience on board the historic Cheynes IV whale chaser ship at Albany’s Historic Whaling Station will be open to the public from next month.
The fully restored whale chaser has long been an object of fascination for visitors, who will now be able to explore the storied ship at night time.
Three whale chasers who spent their working weeks on board the Cheynes IV will guide people through every nook and cranny of the ship while sharing tales from their working years.
Albany’s Historic Whaling Station general manager Elise van Gorp said The Night Watch Experience would include a tour of the galley, eating mess and every cabin.
“Being aboard after dark and hearing the stories really brings the history to life and makes it very real for each participant,” she said.
“They will be able to hear what really happened on board and what the various crew experienced."
The Night Watch Experience will run on the first Friday of each month, starting next week.
