Long-serving members Wayne and Karla Watson were recognised with life membership of the Albany Speedway Club at the recent Noel Pearson Memorial night.

Both have spent time as race competitors and have also held positions on the executive committee, including as recently as this season.

Ratified at the last annual general meeting, the life memberships were announced at last month’s race meeting in honour of family member Noel Pearson.

Wayne has served in a host of different roles across years of volunteering at the club, and Karla has spent time as both secretary and treasurer.

ASC president Craig Tester said the pair were outstanding servants of the club.

“A number of life members brought it to us and we wanted to keep it a secret and announce it at a big meeting that means a lot to their family,” Tester said.

“Their service to Albany speedway has been enormous — years of helping out in every role possible.

“They have shown great dedication through sponsorship with their businesses as well, and they are the first to help out when we need something done.

“Wayne has been central to our new bar works progressing and we are so appreciative of their ongoing support.”

Karla is a third generation driver and Wayne a second generation competitor, while both their children have also actively raced at the club.
