WAFL reserves premiership an ‘insane feeling’ for Great Southern’s Henrick Alforque after Swans’ grand result

Great Southern speedster Henrick Alforque says playing in a WAFL reserves premiership with Swan Districts is one of the best moments of his life. Alforque played a key role in the Swans’ epic three-point win against West Perth in the grand final at Optus Stadium on Sunday morning. Having played for Railways and Albany in the Great Southern, Alforque moved to Perth chasing his footy dream. However, after two years with Claremont, Alforque made the switch to Swans and is now a premiership player. A big preseason and new environment were key reasons behind the 21-year-old’s breakout year where he averaged 17 disposals per game, 3.4 tackles and kicked 12 goals. “It feels like all the hard work has paid off, especially having a massive preseason,” Alforque said. “The move to swans was probably the best choice. “Making plenty of long life friends and being coached by Greg Harding who also is an Albany product.” The Swans trailed the Falcons by 11 points at half-time but they surged back into the decider in the third term. Alforque’s goal in the 13th minute of the third put his side back in front and his side kicked the next two goals to go ahead by 14 points at the final change. The Falcons kicked three goals to one in the final term leaving the Swans with some nervous moments late but they prevailed in a thriller, 7.15 (57) to 8.6 (54). Alforque finished with 10 disposals, five marks, two tackles and kicked 1.1. “I had a feeling the lads were always going to pull through and seal the deal. “Hearing that final siren was an insane feeling. “Times like these are rare to come and being a part of a premiership team would be one of my highlights in my life.”
