Three Albany players have produced strong results at the WA Open State Table Tennis Championships, which wrapped up in Perth last week.

Veteran Peter Muller made the trip once again and he was joined by younger Albany Table Tennis Club members Brad Johnston and Travis Marshall, who were competing at their first State championships.

The trio competed in an Albany team at the tournament, losing to eventual winners and No.1 seeds Busselton 11-0, also going down 9-2 to runners-up Mandurah.

Albany were able to win their final game against No.2 seeds Busselton, playing well to finish 6-5 victors.

Muller reached the semifinals of the country singles and also made the country doubles semi-finals and finished third in the State over-70 years singles.

Johnston and Marshall teamed up in the division two State doubles event and put in a solid performance at their maiden State championship appearance.

The pair finished runners-up in the division 2 doubles after being defeated by Chris Marsh and Sean Bluett.

Former Albany resident Mia Zou was in dominant touch at the tournament, winning the under-21 mixed singles and the women’s open singles.

Zou was also part of the successful women’s open doubles team that won the State title.

The 19-year-old recently competed at the national championships and is one of the highest-ranked players in WA.
