Throwing a line for salmon turned into something far more memorable for a local fisherman at Bunker Bay when a 4.5m great white shark cruised past just metres from shore.

Doctor Hook Lures owner Max Foley had been focused on chasing salmon when the ocean delivered an unexpected visitor.

“It wasn’t exactly what we were chasing on our salmon mission at Bunker Bay, but when a 4.5m great white shark cruises past right in close, you can’t complain,” he said.

“I couldn’t believe it, such a surreal moment seeing a creature this big at a beach I grew up fishing.

“An absolutely unreal sight.”
