A jaw-dropping 1946 Plymouth owned by Albany’s Tim Laycock won best of show honours at the 2022 Albany Show and Shine.

The Albany Agricultural Society pavilions were packed on Sunday for the annual event by the Great Southern Street Machines Association.

Event co-ordinator Christine Sargent said the car was a clear favourite among the crowd as well, also claiming the people’s choice award.

“The paintwork on it and the details were all amazing,” she said.

“It was just a really nice-looking car that was well presented and it was a little bit different as well which helped it stand out.”

Ms Sargent said more than $12,000 was taken at the gates on Sunday.

“So that’s 1200 people who paid to come in plus we gave away a lot of double passes and there were kids under 12 entering who entered for free as well,” she said.

“It was certainly very busy throughout the day.”

Demonstrations by volunteer firefighters, rocker cover racing and the roar of a 2000hp drag car engine all drew big crowds.

“We had everything from classic cars through to the modern cars like the GTS HSV which always had a few people around it,” Ms Sargent said.
