Three Great Southern Football League young guns make colts debut for Claremont in seventh straight WAFL win
Six Great Southern young guns pulled on the Claremont Tigers guernsey on Saturday, playing key roles in the colts side’s 22-point victory over Peel Thunder.
Lucas Ravenhill, Kaleb Germain, Aiden Clark, Blake Panizza, Lachlan Cale and Rory Luscombe all featured in the Tigers’ 11.5 (71) to 7.7 (49) victory over the Thunder at Revo Fitness Stadium.
Germain and Clark, who are playing for Albany in the Great Southern Football League, made their colts debut alongside Royals junior Panizza.
North Albany’s Ravenhill had a field day for the hosts gathering 18 disposals, eight marks and had 28 hit-outs alongside colts mainstay Luscombe (Royals), who booted two goals from his 13 disposals.
Germain has been dominating for the Sharks in the GSFL and was clean through the midfield on debut accumulating 11 disposals and had two inside-50s.
Fellow Sharks teammate Clark and Panizza each collected six touches also on debut as the Tigers won their seventh game in a row.
Tigers talent manager Jordan Smith confirmed Denmark-Walpole youngster Marlon Mastalerz will make his debut for the club on Sunday against East Perth.
Mastalerz has been a shining light for the winless Magpies, leading the team in the GSFL coaches’ player of the year standings with 16 votes.
Tigers league captain Declan Mountford, hailing from North Albany, made a steady return to the field in the reserves after a nasty hamstring injury in round three.
Mountford found plenty of the ball with 19 disposals and laid eight strong tackles as he looks to improve his match fitness before returning to the league side.
Talented Bordon product Anthony Davis played a key hand in the Tigers’ huge upset win over the Thunder, knocking their opponents off the top of the ladder.
Davis gathered 24 touches including 22 kicks across half-back, took 10 marks and had three inside-50s as the Tigers soared to a shock 10.12 (72) 5.13 (43) win over the Fremantle-affiliated side.
Former Royals high-flyer Tom Edwards booted a much-needed goal in Swan Districts’ thrilling win over Subiaco on Saturday.
Edwards converted the Swans’ first major of the afternoon and finished with 11 possessions and seven marks in his side’s nailbiting 9.11 (65) to 7.12 (54) win against the Lions at Sullivan Logistics Stadium.
North Albany product Alex Pearce continued his sensational season for East Perth’s reserves side leading them to a dominant 54-point derby demolition over West Perth at Pentanet Stadium.
Pearce gathered 28 disposals, clunked six marks and laid two tackles in his side’s 13.7 (85) to 3.13 (31) victory.
