Lower Great Southern Hockey Association sent a total of seven teams to the annual South West Junior Hockey Carnival in Bunbury over the long weekend.

The carnival is organised by Bunbury Hockey Association and run over three days, as teams came from all over the State to participate in a round-robin format.

Games consist of two 15-minute halves played on turf and grass, followed by finals and crossover games played on the last day.

LGSHA development officer Dinah Gordon said there were strong results across several grades.

“LGSHA had a great representation with seven teams attending the carnival along with teams from all over the State,” she said.

“There were 151 teams competing across 16 grades from Year 5-6 to Year 9-10.

“While the results were quite positive, the stand-out teams were the LGSHA boys 7-8 that finished second in their pool, narrowly missing a grand final berth.

“Along with the 7-8 girls that finished third in their pool, missing out on the top spot by two points.

“It was a great effort by many volunteers in the association to pull together for the weekend.”
