Shire of Plantagenet seeking public feedback over tourist accommodation changes

The Shire of Plantagenet is seeking community feedback on its recent planning policy that aims to create new tourism options and developments.
The Shire’s tourism policy, adopted in 2006, requires updating to accommodate newer tourist options such as Airbnb and Hipcamp.
Aiming to attract new and more tourists to the Plantagenet region, the Shire seeks to align itself with other local government areas and State policies.
A balance is sought between agriculture and tourism, so as to not affect sustainable or available use of the land.
The draft criteria require tourism accommodations built after the policy plan change to be compatible with the environment around it.
Feedback and comments can be submitted via email to info@sop.wa.gov.au or in writing to the Shire of Plantagenet, PO Box 48, Mount Barker WA, 6324.
The draft policy can be viewed at https://bit.ly/42l1Lvz.
Submissions close on Thursday, May 18 at 4pm.
