Teams are jostling for finals positions as the Albany Netball Association nears the end of the regular season.

Royals Saints 2 and Griffins 2 faced off in round 12 of the A3 competition and it was an excellent game with Grammar in second place and the fourth-placed Royals Saints fighting to secure their finals berth.

With plenty on the line, Royals Saints prevailed by six goals to notch their fifth win of the season.

Griffins came out incredibly strong in the first quarter with goal shooter Karis Cristinelli and goal attack Maddy Gleeson proving their worth in the A3 division to combine for 12 goals.

Royals Saints took a little bit of time finding their groove on the court, scoring just six goals in the first term, but in the second quarter it didn’t take them long to pick up the pace.

With Ivy Parsons in goal keeper alongside Georgia Edwards in goal defence, Royals Saints secured enough intercepts and rebounds to help their team win the quarter 10 goals to seven but Griffins still led 19-16 at half-time.

Griffins centre court Maya Anning played a skilful, fast-paced game, opening up lots of passages of play for her side and making some brilliant feeds into the shooters.

In the all-important third term, Royals Saints stepped up their game and shot another 10 goals to reduce the margin to just one at the final break.

It was clear in the final quarter that Royals Saints wanted the win as their shooters Charlotte Edwards and Mikayla Ditchburn netted an impressive 11 goals.

Despite Griffins defenders Rhiannon Willaims-Jolley and Enya Marques putting on an impressive show with well-timed holds and jumps for the rebounds, their shooters were starved of supply and added just four goals in the last quarter.

Royals Saints produced a strong display after quarter time to finish 37-31 winners in thrilling game and strengthened their finals chances in the process.

In the other A3 games, Sonics 1 had an impressive win over Narrikup 3, 43-15, and Kangas 2 defeated Railways 3, 52-28.

Kangas 2 sit on the top of the ladder with Grammar in second followed by Sonics and Royals Saints.
