Roll up sleeves for pasta day
Albany Italian Club is hosting a pasta and sauce-making day tomorrow and is encouraging anyone interested in learning some of Italy’s traditional cooking techniques to get involved.
The event begins at 9am as local Italian cooking experts demonstrate the traditional methods, firstly for making pasta, and then the tomato sauce. Italian club committee member Patricia Nostrini said it was a fun-filled day.
“We teach them how to make pasta by hand — the traditional way — and they’re taught how to make the dough and then they’re taught how to put it on the machine,” she said.
“We’ve got 100kg of tomatoes that they’ll slice open and core and then they cook them and they’re taught how to cook the sauce.”
Mrs Nostrini said the day was a way of passing on knowledge.
“We’re trying to get the young generation of today, to show them how to make spaghetti the traditional way,” she said.
For those interested in the final product, the pasta and sauce made will be served at the club from 5.30pm. An adult plate will cost $15 and a child’s serving will be $10.
