Michelle Gough: Bail bid again delayed for Albany mother accused of conspiring with GP to kill daughter

An Albany mother accused of conspiring with a doctor to attempt to kill her severely disabled young daughter has had her bid for bail delayed yet again. Michelle Yvonne Gough, 40, has been remanded in custody since she was charged — along with Albany local Dr Pieter Austin, 47 — for attempting to kill her six-year-old daughter last month. It is alleged the mother asked the GP to supply drugs, understood to be insulin, in an attempt to end the little girl’s life and that the GP was aware of the “intended use of the drug”. Ms Gough was due to apply for bail in Stirling Gardens Magistrates Court earlier this month, but the hearing was delayed after it was revealed she had fears for her safety behind bars, with her lawyers saying she had been threatened by fellow inmates. Magistrate Kate McDonald said she needed more information before making a decision and put off the bail application again on Wednesday, when it emerged there was confusion as to whether a psychological report would be tendered as part of the bid. “That needs to be clarified,” she said. The matter has been adjourned for one week.
