Long-serving Shire of Williams president John Cowcher has died.

A post on the Shire’s Facebook page this morning paid tribute to Mr Cowcher who has been president for 20 years.

“It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our longest serving president, mentor and friend,” it read.

“You will be greatly missed.

“A true gentleman that has touched the lives of so many.

“Our love and support goes out to Heidi, Christopher and Michael.”

Mr Cowcher was first elected to the Shire in 1993 and has been Shire president since 1999.
