Kalgoorlie-Boulder’s Mother’s Day Classic fundraiser will return to its original venue this year

Kalgoorlie-Boulder’s annual Mother’s Day Classic will this year return to the location where it began 14 years ago.
As the national event celebrates its 29th year, organisers are bringing the Kalgoorlie-Boulder leg of the breast and ovarian cancer research fundraiser back to Karlkurla Bushland Park on May 10.
Organiser Allison Hunter said the venue change would remove cut-off times for the event and would allow them to offer a 5km walk or run and 10km run option, starting at 9am.
Mrs Hunter encouraged people to register early to guarantee an event-finish medal.
Last year’s event saw 244 participants, with the highest local turnout over the years being 626.
Women of WASM have partnered with the event this year and will support it with a team of volunteers, but other sponsorship is still being sought.
The national event has seen $50.8 million donated to breast and ovarian cancer research in 29 years, with 1.8 million participants involved.
Event chief executive Zara Lawless said she was thrilled to see so many communities taking the lead and hosting their own Mother’s Day Classic events.
“It shows that Australians don’t just want to attend, they want to be part of something bigger,” she said.
“They want to turn Mother’s Day into a moment of purpose, standing stronger together in support of those impacted by breast and ovarian cancer.”
