Local duo announced as equestrian winners
Albany equestrian duo Debbie Panizza and Amelia McDonald have been recognised for their efforts in the sport at the Equestrian WA Sports Star Awards 2019 held at the Westin Hotel in Perth last week.
Panizza was recognised with the Show Horse Patron’s Award for her input into the growth and administration of the sport.
Equestrian WA received her nomination from her daughter Emma Panizza.
Debbie Panizza has been involved in the administration and organisation of equestrian events for many years and has encouraged, mentored and supported many of Albany’s young riders such as Amelia McDonald.
Show Horse president Val Mayger made Panizza’s presentation who was unable to attend due to family commitments.
Equestrian WA chief executive Dwight Pedlow made the presentations to Year 8 Great Southern Grammar student Amelia McDonald.
Amelia, pictured, won both the Childs Show Pony division and open division of the Small Show Pony of the Year 2019 with her pony, Wendamar Flirt.
The show pony of the year was open to all ponies 12.2 hands high and under, so for Amelia to win both awards is an amazing effort.
Amelia attends King River Pony Club with her pony and competes regularly at the local agricultural shows and at the Albany Horsemen’s Association official events.
No doubt this experience helped her take home the award.
In addition, there were auctions at the awards to raise funds for the pending Olympic pursuits of equestrian riders Sonja Johnson and Kristy Jarvis.
