Liptrott, Thomas take top honours

Speedway returned to Albany’s Attwell Park on Saturday with the sidecars headlining a big opening program.

The sidecars were the feature division on the opening night with Reece Liptrott and Jesse Thomas taking out the overall points, ahead of Dylan Milton and Josh O’Bryan, while Chad Harvey and Jamie Thompson were in third.

Father and son combination Jeff and Daniel Bishop won two heats before pulling out from the final two races due to a pre-existing injury.

Formula 125 State champion Nathen Tester won all of his heat races but came second in the feature to multiple State champion Sam Jewell who was second to Tester in all the heat races.

Jacinta Tester had mechanical issues with her car and was unable to challenge the top two.

Jason Batchelor swapped his production sedan for a street stock in the off-season, managing to come away with three heat wins and also taking out the feature in his new car.

Ron Belfield took the clean sweep in the production sedans event, winning all three heats and the feature, while Rob Wolfenden finished third in the feature, his best night in a few years.

Grant Chisholm took out the limited sprintcar feature after Shayne Langdon was comfortably leading before pulling to the infield.

Glen Rees made a successful debut in his limited sprintcar getting through without any troubles.

Jasmin Kennedy took out the feature race in the junior category after winning two heats and recording a second placing.

Albany’s next meeting is on November 23.
