Leading street stock driver Peter Herbert and local volunteer Sandra Perry have been recognised for their recent achievements and contributions to speedway, being named award winners at the Speedway Sedans WA annual general meeting on Sunday.

The 2016-17 SSWA driver of the year and Julie Green memorial dedication award are both announced at the AGM from nominations received earlier and the Great Southern took away both honours.

Herbert, a member of Mt Barker Speedway and Albany Speedway clubs, was named the WA driver of the year after another superb calendar year, which included finishing fourth in the WA Street Stock Title in Ellenbrook, competing in about 25 events and travelling more than 20,000km during the season.

Perry has been a long-time volunteer with Mt Barker Speedway Club, mainly in the role of secretary but also helping with electronic timing, among other things.

She was recognised for her many decades of work, not only in Mt Barker but other neighbouring speedway venues. MBSC nominated Herbert and Perry for the State awards, the only two presented at the SSWA AGM.

The majority of clubs attended the AGM, where newly elected president Jerome Sutton outlined plans for venues around the State to tender for a 50th anniversary celebration meeting of Speedway Sedans Australia to be held in late 2018.
