Tourist Alana Thomson and her two children got a friendly surprise when visiting Cape Riche last Thursday, coming across a seal frolicking in the sun.

Ms Thomson, who grew up in Mt Barker and now lives in Yanchep, had made the trip down to visit family when she came across the seal and snapped these photos.

Her two boys were amazed by the furry creature from the sea. “My gran lives in Gnowellen but we’ve never been to Cape Riche, which is so close to her,” Ms Thomson said.

“I was taking photos of the beach and went around to the rocks and he was just there.

“He was just sunbaking on the rocks and then when he noticed we were there he got up on the rock like he was posing.

“He was really friendly and it was such a cool experience with my boys, they called him Jonas and want to go back and see him again.

“He hands out near the boat ramp and he was just such a dude.”
