Denmark shire approves major upgrade to charging network for electric vehicles in bid to improve tourism

Denmark’s electric vehicle network will receive a boost after the Shire of Denmark approved a deal with eLumina to install new chargers.
eLumina will replace the existing slow chargers with battery-backed fast EV charging stations at Berridge Park and at the public car park at the Shire Administration Building.
The eLumina chargers use battery-backed technology, enabling fast charging without needing major upgrades to the electricity networks.
The chargers are suited to regional areas as they are set to improve reliability during peak demand and in local power interruptions.
Denmark shire president Aaron Wiggins said the installation of the EV infrastructure will come at zero cost to ratepayers.
He said council is willing to invest in the new chargers in order to increase tourism and spending in local businesses, which will deliver flow-on economic benefits to the community.
“The lack of EV charging in regional areas is not just a headache for electric vehicle users, it’s also a barrier to the full growth of EV utilisation on our roads and highways,” he said.
“Having fast charging stations available within our shire is a huge upgrade to our EV infrastructure and sets a great example of how we can work within our existing power grid constraints to make the most of local renewable energy, for locals and visitors.”
The installation of this network also complements the WA Electric Vehicle Network, strengthening Denmark’s connectivity with surrounding regional centres.
eLumina will be responsible for the installation, operation, maintenance and ongoing compliance of the EV networks.
The agreement has been signed for five years with options to renew later on.
