Badminton players ready to vie for coveted shield
Albany’s Amity Badminton Club will host their major tournament of the season this weekend when some of the State’s best players clash at Albany PCYC.
Albany will be one of five clubs from around WA that will have representatives competing in the annual Albany Badminton Tournament on Saturday and Sunday.
The event has been running for more than 20 years which and has attracted a capacity field of 48 competitions from five clubs, who are looking to claim the winning shield.
It will be a round robin format with players divided into different divisions depending on their playing ability.

The tournament will see 10 local competitors step out onto the court.
A tournament dinner for competitors will be held on the Saturday night at Six Degrees.
Amity Badminton Club secretary Shaun Richards said he was expecting a fantastic weekend of competition.
‘It’s great for us to get such high numbers from around the State,” he said.
“We had to cap it at 48 competitors due to a large number of entries.
“With a lot of travellers coming it’s a good fundraiser for Albany PCYC with them having the canteen open.”
