One of Albany’s much-maligned intersections has been ranked as the riskiest in regional WA following the RAC’s annual survey of the most dangerous roads and intersections.

The Albany Highway-South Coast Highway intersection which includes the Chester Pass roundabout has been voted as the riskiest for the first time after years of featuring in the top 10 across the State.

In the survey of 6000 motorists, respondents pointed to the intersection’s “confusing layout” and difficulty in crossing traffic as key reasons behind its place at the top of the poll.

In the 2016-17 Risky Roads survey, the Chester Pass roundabout was named regional WA’s second-most dangerous intersection and sixth most dangerous overall.

The release of the survey results comes only weeks after the Federal Government’s budget commitment to completing the Albany Ring Road designed to take heavy haulage traffic off residential roads.

Three of the riskiest regional intersections come from the Great Southern with Formby Road South-Gnowangerup-Jerramungup Road intersection in Jackitup voted the seventh worst and the Albany Highway-West Beattie Road intersection in Kendenup eighth worst.
