Albany City Kart Club will host the opening round of the South Eastern Zone Series this weekend when more than 50 competitors from around the State are expected to do battle on the bitumen.

In one of two major feature meetings the club will hold this season, almost 50 entries had been received this week across 12 different classes.

The SEZ series consists of four legs, also taking in rounds at the Lake King Kart Club, Esperance Kart Club and Eastern Goldfields Kart Club. A strong contingent of Albany members will race on their home surface as they look to begin the 2020 series on the right note.

Greg Pearson, Scott Else, Timothy Harris, Graham Treloar and Damien Stephens are the Albany competitors entered in the Tag 125 restricted medium class.

Among the entries in the KA4 junior light class is Albany duo Riley Munro and Harrison Beres while eight drivers had entered across the two cadet categories.

Cody Colmer, Mitchell Turner, Ayden Tempany (cadet 12), Grady Crofts and Hamish Crofts (cadet 9) will represent the local club in the two divisions for the youngest racers on track.

Albany’s track spans 935m and the round will see drivers race in an anticlockwise direction across the weekend.

Practice will start tomorrow afternoon and drivers will continue on Saturday morning, which is followed by heat racing that begins at 10am and runs until 5pm.

The remaining heats and final will be held on Sunday.

Each competitor will contest four heats and then a 14-lap final for their respective division.

Entry is free to spectators.
