Albany police are once again gearing up for their annual Polar Plunge to raise money for Special Olympics WA, hoping to reach a goal of $7500.

Emergency personnel including police, paramedics, and firefighters in costumes or uniforms will be joined by the Albany community to take the frosty dive to raise much-needed funds.

The fundraiser has raised just over $2000 of its $7500 goal.

Last year, the campaign raised $5000 for sporting programs, events, equipment, sports coaches and medals for Special Olympics WA athletes with intellectual disabilities.

The chilly plunge will kick off at 10am on July 20 at Middleton Beach, with teams Aloha, Frozen Bacon, and Albany Ice Blocks returning for the fundraising jump.

The Polar Plunge was started in 2023 by Albany Const. Lizzy Alderson, who wanted to see a fundraiser for Special Olympics WA in Albany.

The entry donation for the plunge is $10 per person, and it is open to everyone above the age of 12.

Registrations for the plunge are open at https://shorturl.at/RZmNO.
