More than a million Australians have booked short-stay holidays with Travel Auctions.

Australian family-owned and operated since 1992, the name is new in WA but familiar in South Australia, where it is based, and other parts of the country.

On the website travelauctions.com.au, travellers just place a bid, aiming to get a winning price.

It might be a cabin on the coast, B&B in the outback, a houseboat on a river, or lots in-between.

This week’s auctions include BreakAway Houseboat on the Murray River in South Australia, which is available for up to seven people for two nights, in an auction that ends on January 29, 2026.

BEHIND THE SCENES

“Travel Auctions gives accommodation providers the chance to increase occupancy in quieter times, without having to advertise a discounted rate — a saving they can pass on to every cheeky bidder, in every auction,” explains a spokesperson.

“It’s one of those ‘win-win’ scenarios.”

Behind the scenes is the 30-strong Travel Auctions team working in that family company. “It’s like one big extended family,” says the spokesperson.

“That’s why you’re just an email or phone call (1300 656 573) away from the very people that make Travel Auctions a friendly, familiar face in an often-faceless online industry.”

Ben and Kim Mead own and operate Travel Auctions.

Ben is also managing director at Holidays of Australia & The World, which we have partnered with for many of our Uluru long weekends, and are working with on our Kimberley Wild Weekend.
