Western Force have teed up a second-consecutive Super Rugby AUS grand final berth against the Waratahs after they smashed the Brumbies 40-12 at North Coast Rugby Club.

In a match which marked James O’Connor’s first competitive match with the Force since 2011, the home side ran in six tries to two to claim a second win on the trot.

And with the Waratahs steamrolling the Reds earlier in the day, it teed up a repeat of last year’s decider, regardless of which of the two sides wins the final home-and-away fixture between each other next weekend.

Force led 28-0 at half-time as they made the most of a strong wind in their favour, before closing out the game in a confident manner.

O’Connor played the final 20 minutes and even though the game was won by then, fans got a chance to see the Wallabies great combine with another veteran in Kurtley Beale as the pair alternated between fly-half and inside centre.

With Beale starting at 10, the Test great showed excellent consistency and helped set up the game’s opening try to young winger Ronan Leahy. He finished the game 5-6 from the kicker’s tee, missing one sole conversion.

Scrum-half Nathan Hastie and openside flanker Jack Daly both bagged a brace, with Hastie showing some clever playmaking in open space for both of his tries.

Returning prop Misinale Epenisa also got on the scoresheet, before the Brumbies snared two consolation tries from Dan Nelson and Darcy Breen.

The winner of the Force’s clash with the Waratahs at Pittwater Rugby Park next Sunday will secure hosting rights for the following weekend’s final.
