West Coast coach Adam Simpsons admits the AFL season is going “to look very different” and the club is busily juggling the welfare of their staff and players as well as working to prepare the club for the season’s hopeful resumption.

There are talks of a best-of-three grand final series, wildcard finals round and even cluster of games in different states for numerous teams as the AFL looks into how best deal with the 2020 season should it go ahead.

Simpson said one of his main focus at the moment was working out how to best get his team ready for the final 16 rounds.

“A condensed and compressed season’s something we’ve got to get our heads around,” Simpson told 7News last night,.

“We’re just trying to work out how things work with when we come back and play.”

Simpson expected many of his players to begin to settle into their new normal as they continue to be isolated from the club.

“Things change ever hour like for all of us,” he said.

“So now we’ll start to look at their programs and how we can keep fit, keep engaged, connect socially just like everyone else with all the apps that you can get. Try to keep them positive as well.

“It was obviously like everyone else a really strange and bizarre week, trying to deal with no football is one thing, but also trying to look after your family, do the right thing for the community and stay engaged with our staff and players that aren’t at the club at the moment.”

Simpson said the AFL was talking with its stakeholders about the possible changes to the season and what it might look like when they return.
