West Coast’s upset over GWS has come at a cost, with Jack Hutchinson copping a late injury blow just two games into his comeback.

Hutchinson kicked two goals in the win over the Giants and played a key role in lifting the Eagles’ pressure, laying seven tackles.

However, after just two games, having worked his way back into the side from a foot stress fracture, Hutchinson is once again sidelined after suffering a hamstring injury.

“As long as he gets through training this week, he’ll return on managed minutes as we build him back into full match play.”

Hutchinson will spend several weeks on the sidelines after sustaining a hamstring injury late in the win over the Giants.

“Unfortunately, Hutch felt some hamstring awareness late in the game,” Merriman said.

“Scans have shown a low-to-moderate grade strain, and we’ll let that settle before confirming an exact time frame.”

It comes as defender Brandon Starcevich is a step closer to a West Coast debut, with the two-time Brisbane premiership defender set to wear the blue and gold for the first time in the WAFL this weekend.

“It’s exciting times for Starce and our fans,” West Coast high performance manager Phil Merriman said.

Forward-ruck Archer Reid is also closing in on a return after a strong week on the track following a knee complaint that has sidelined him for the past four games.

“Arch had a really good training week last week,” Merriman said.

“He’ll need to get through training before being assessed, with his availability to be determined after that.”

The Eagles, who have changed their name to Waalitj Marawar for Sir Doug Nicholls Round, take on Collingwood at the MCG on Saturday, in Magpie veteran Scott Pendlebury’s AFL record 433rd game. It will also be Harley Reid’s 50th.

The Eagles are no closer to determine when veteran forward Jamie Cripps (knee) or tall defender Harry Edwards (concussion) would return.

“Harry is in great spirits around the club,” Merriman said.

“We’ll follow the appropriate process to make sure we get the best care that Harry needs before considering what the next step in his football will be.”

Collingwood is set to welcome back ruck Darcy Cameron from an ankle injury in perfect timing following a season ending knee injury to fellow tall Oscar Steene last weekend.

Cameron missed the Magpies’ narrow loss to Sydney last round, but has been cleared to take on in-form Eagles ruck Bailey Williams after rsuming full training.

Collingwood captain Darcy Moore, mid-forward Patrick Lipinski and Lachie Sullivan are all working through concussion protocols and will be assessed after training on Thursday.

Key forward Tim Membrey has returned to full training following a hamstring injury he suffered in round seven and will also be a late call on Thursday.
