West Coast have been labelled “an average footy side” after their embarrassing 45-point loss to Collingwood, with calls for coach Adam Simpson to immediately throw out their game plan.

Four-time premiership player Jordan Lewis says the Eagles’ issue isn’t personnel, rather a “slow” and “frustrating” playing style that is leaving both their forwards and their fans frustrated.

“The coaching from Adam Simpson has to change because everyone can defend the West Coast Eagles,” Lewis warned on Fox Footy.

“It’s a serious issue, they’re far too slow. They’re far too safe.

West Coast could only muster two goals to three-quarter time in the abysmal performance against the Pies – who sat 16th on the AFL ladder.

Lewis described the Eagles as “an average footy side” and put a pen through the club’s 2021 premiership aspirations.

But he stopped short of calling for a roster overhaul, believing the Eagles have the talent to challenge in 2022.

“We look at their list, the quality of players… for me they sit right in that premiership race,” he said.

“They need to change the way they play… especially offensively.

“Their game plan is outdated.

“Adam Simpson or whoever is in control of their ball movements needs to give their players more options.”

AFL great Brad Johnson said it was a disappointing result for milestone man Shannon Hurn, given his 300 games of service to the club.

“West Coast can’t have anyone walk off with their head held high,” he said.

“They were completely off.”
