Tennis West State League: Peppermint Grove star Talia Gibson looks to continue hot form against Hensman Park
Stopping Peppermint Grove star Talia Gibson is seemingly mission impossible for her competitors in the Tennis West State League.
Gibson is undefeated in the women’s state league across three seasons and has her team well poised to fight for the title this season, with Peppermint Grove sitting in second position.
If anyone can stop Gibson though it is Hensman Park’s Lily Fairclough when the two meet at Peppermint Grove Tennis Club on Friday night.
Gibson claimed a tight 6-4 3-6 10-6 win in round three of this season, but Fairclough is in great form, having won seven of nine singles matches. The aggressive left-hander is seen as the best hope to breaking her opponent’s streak.
Fairclough and Hensman Park have been in great form this season, sitting top of the ladder and having beaten Peppermint Grove earlier this year, with Gibson’s victory the only one of six for her team in the tie.
Much of the contest between the two clubs will rely on who wins this match given the others appear fairly even.
Peppermint Grove’s Caitlin Hindmarsh has a tough contest against Anja Dokic, with both baseline hitters preparing for some serious rallies.
Dokic is undefeated this season from five singles matches, while Hindmarsh is no slouch, having won five of her last seven.
Ruby Broadbent will look to extend her winning streak to four consecutive matches when she takes on Hensman Park’s Ksenija Vujacic, while WA State Pizzey Cup teammates Gayle Leong and Ella Nurkic will do battle in a contest where the latter goes in as the slight favourite.
