Seeds tumble at WTA's Tenerife Ladies Open
Jaqueline Cristian has secured a surprise win against second-seeded Tamara Zidansek in the opening round of the WTA Tour's Tenerife Ladies Open.
The 7-5 4-6 6-1 victory for Romanian Cristian, ranked 108th, over Slovenian Zidansek was not the only upset in day one action.
China's sixth seed Shuai Zhang also crashed out, thumped 6-2 6-1 by compatriot Xinyu Wang.
Those two results have blown the bottom quarter of the draw wide open.
Meanwhile, Slovakia's Anna Karolina Schmiedlova, American Ann Li and Romania's Irina-Camelia Begu all won to move through to the second round.
