Former West Coast, Port Adelaide utility Brendon Ah Chee signs with original WAFL club South Fremantle

Brendon Ah Chee is heading back to where it all began.

After a decade in the AFL across two clubs, the former West Coast and Port Adelaide utility has returned to his original WAFL club South Fremantle.

The 27-year-old was de-listed by the Eagles at season’s end after 31 appearances to go with 27 at the Power.

Pick 45 in the 2011 national draft, Ah Chee remarkably had just one two-year deal - his first contract in the AFL given to all national draftees - in 10 seasons.

He requested a trade from Port Adelaide at the end of 2017 because of lack of opportunity before nominating West Coast as his preferred destination.

At WAFL level, Ah Chee played 29 senior games for West Coast’s WAFL side and East Perth, averaging 20 disposals, four tackles, four marks and booting 19 goals.

The Bulldogs announced the news of the 189cm midfielder/forward’s two-year deal on their social media channels on Monday morning.

“Pumped to be back! Can’t wait to get into it,” Ah Chee responded on Twitter.

It’s a massive boost for last year’s grand finalists, who will lose returning Richmond forward Matthew Parker.

He becomes the latest axed Eagle to return to the WAFL after Ben Johnson (West Perth).

Brayden Ainsworth and Will Collins, who were also told by West Coast they wouldn’t be getting a contract in 2022, are yet to make a call on where they are playing next year.

Premiership ruckman Nathan Vardy is heading back to country Victoria to play for North Warrnambool Eagles in the Warrnambool and Districts Football League.
