Sam Kerr en route to Perth with wife Kristie Mewis and son Jagger ahead of AFC Women’s Asian Cup
Sam Kerr is on her way back home to Perth with wife Kristie Mewis and son Jagger ahead of the AFC Women’s Asian Cup — and the Matildas superstar will be entering the tournament in goal-scoring form.
Only hours after finding the back of the net for club side Chelsea in their 2-1 win over Manchester United in the Women’s FA Cup, Kerr took to Instagram to share a photo of the trio ahead of their plane trip to Australia.
“Through to the next round & off to Aus 🫶🏽,” the post was captioned.
Kerr, who returned to competitive action in September of last year after an ACL tear which left her sidelined for nearly 18 months, marked her 150th appearance for Chelsea with the goal against the Red Devils.
She welcomed son Jagger in May with American wife Mewis, a fellow professional soccer player who she first met on the pitch in 2019.
Last year, Kerr said motherhood had been “so much fun, more fun than people prepare you for.”
“I don’t think it’s changed my perspective on football. I still love the game and I’m all in when I’m there. But it’s changed my home life,” Kerr told CBA Newsroom.
“When I come home, I’m not watching clips of myself anymore. I have better separation now, and it’s been healthy. I don’t stew over games. I come home, take care of him, and it gives me a new perspective.”
Ahead of the Matildas’ first tournament back together on home soil since a barnstorming run through the Women’s World Cup in 2023, goalkeeper Mackenzie Arnold said the squad did not take their chances to come together for granted.
“It always feels a bit like a high school reunion once everyone is in the country,” Arnold told Stellar.
“When I was in London, a lot of us lived there, so we could see each other between camps. Now, I go months without seeing the girls. It’s exciting getting back, especially when it’s for a longer period, being at a major tournament.”
