Perth Glory women’s winless A-League streak has stretched to four games with a 1-1 draw against Newcastle Jets on Sunday.

The result, at the end of a disrupted build-up, left Glory in sixth spot.

Glory dominated long passages, had plenty of chances and should have come away from the No.2 Sportsground with all three points.

They took a 54th minute lead with a fine Hana Lowry goal that was cancelled out 25 minutes later with an equally impressive effort from Elizabeth Eddy against the run of play.

The re-shuffled side had six changes from the side that lost 4-0 to Sydney.

They were depleted with three players testing COVID-positive and injuries to forwards, Susan Phonsongkham, Cyera Hintzen and Demi Koulizakis.

Coach Alex Epakis was watching the game in isolation at the club’s North Sydney accommodation hub after testing positive for COVID-19.

“Given the context of last week’s loss, three games in one week, the disrupted preparation, it’s difficult to fault the players,” Epakis said.

“They were excellent in their attitude, excellent in their focus and they had a point to prove.

“We are disappointed we didn’t capitalise on the chances, disappointed with the scoreline.

“The performance ticked a lot of boxes but from a scoreline point of view it leaves a bit of a sour taste.”

New signing, former Matilda striker Leena Khamis, started on the bench, another ex-Matilda Lisa De Vanna returned to the starting line-up and there was a first appearance for Abbey Green.

The Jets struggled to get out of their half in the early stages but Glory could not capitalise on overwhelming possession and territory.

De Vanna, shrugging off the hamstring strain that has dogged her all season, had the first real chance, heading over a pinpoint cross from Deborah-Anne de la Harpe.

Lowry had two long range efforts smothered by Jets goalkeeper Claire Coelho while Sophie Harding had a deflected shot well saved by Morgan Aquino at the other end.

Aquino then went down bravely at the feet of Ashlee Brodigan to keep her side in the game.

Glory took the lead with a classy turn and shot from Lowry from a beautiful chip into the box from Mie Leth Jans.

De Vanna weaved her way through to force Coelho into a save, Natasha Rigby headed onto the bar and Coelho produced a great save to keep out a de la Harpe free-kick.

Jemma House should have levelled the scores, taking an air swing with the goal beckoning, but Eddy made no mistake firing home from the edge of the box.
