WBBL 2025: Perth Scorchers to take inspiration from Aboriginal artwork for must-win Brisbane Heat clash

Perth Scorchers will be rocking some specially-designed footwear for their Aboriginal Heritage match against Brisbane Heat on Saturday at the WACA. Amy Edgar, Mikayla Hinkley and Sophie Devine have been sporting shoes decorated with Indigenous art for much of the campaign. But the Aboriginal artwork will feature prominently under Saturday night lights against Brisbane. The designs were created by students from Yule Brook College, all of whom are members of the Deadly Sista Girlz program, supported by the Waalitj Foundation. Edgar’s New Balances’ contrast a vibrant blue that takes in the creation serpent, Wagyl, on top before purple, yellow and white create a swirl of stories around the outside guard of the shoe. Created by Janiqua Woods and Jaliyah Abraham Edgar’s shoes represent some of Noongar culture’s most important stories and a connection to the State’s all-important waterways. Hinkley’s shoes, black on orange, feature Kangaroo prints as a tale of travel, connecting to Aboriginal people’s ancestors as wandered throughout their lands. Devine’s art depicts rainbows as reminder that the world can be beautiful even in the rain. Men’s players Cooper Connolly, Jhye Richardson and Matthew Kelly will also roll out the special wheels during BBL15. The State’s next generation of Indigenous cricketers will also get their chance to take centre stage ahead of their Scorchers heroes on Saturday. WA Cricket Foundation’s Kambarang Carnival will precede the clash with Brisbane on the outfield before carnival participants, players and support staff from both teams, alongside WA Cricket staff, form Australian Cricket’s largest barefoot circle ahead of the first ball. The Scorchers need victory in the final home-and-away game at the WACA on Saturday to keep their finals hopes alive, and will have no shortage of reasons to get excited.
